EVERYTHING IS SPECIAL

MY BACKGROUND

For over 25 years, I worked with clay as founder of Terry Tiles, creating hand- painted ceramic tile installations for commercial and residential spaces all over the world.  That chapter of my career was rooted in precision, design and the seamless integration of art into everyday environments.

After stepping away from the tile business,  I explored new creative paths of photography and science fiction along with expanding my collection of vintage and antique textiles. These influences led to a period of mixed media work of richly layered wall pieces and original decorative objects to create unique, one of a kind mixed media wall hangings and original  decorative pieces.

Now I have returned to clay with a renewed focus on sculpture.  My current work centers on animal forms as expressive beings.  I am drawn to the subtle ways animals communicate through gesture, a tilt of the head and quiet gaze.  I'm interested in the ways animals can speak volumes without words.

I hand-build using low fire clay and porcelain and experiment with many different techniques, using mason stains, underglaze and glazes, and firing procedures.

I am currently expanding my materials to incorporate cardboard and wood.  I depend on my instincts to show me the direction I am going in.
