For the last 35 years I have been working with clay and making handmade painted ceramic tile which can be seen in commercial and residential sites all over the world. After retiring Terry Tiles, I spent several years following my love of photography and science fiction along with my collection of vintage and antique findings to create unique, one of a kind mixed media wall pieces and original decorative pieces. I often can't resist commenting on how science fiction relates to the state of the world today.
Now I have come full circle working again with clay. Hand building with low fire clay and porcelain and experimenting with many different techniques. Using mason stains, underglaze and glazes. Different textures and firing procedures.
Vintage postcards, old prints, and my photographs are embellished with antique and vintage beads, buttons, gems, embroidery, jewelry and other textiles from around the world. They are painted, glittered and sealed.
I am doing what I love. Taking a precious finding and showing it to the viewer so they can appreciate it in a new light. Seeing something that might look ordinary and showing how beautiful it can be.
New to my practice is paper and cardboard. The possibilities are endless.
